Bangabandhu discusses constitutional matters

BANGABANDHU SUMMONS DR KAMAL

Prime Minister Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman summoned Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Kamal Hossain from Italy today for urgent talks on constitutional matters. The law minister flew to Geneva from Italy and held talks with Bangabandhu.

It is gathered that the prime minister asked Dr Kamal to expedite the framing of the constitution reflecting the hopes and aspirations of the people so as to enable the country to hold the first ever general elections on the free soil of Bangladesh early next year. It is also learned that Dr Kamal has had detailed discussions with Bangabandhu on different aspects of the constitution.

It may be mentioned that the Constitution Draft Committee will meet in Dhaka tomorrow and the draft is already in a final stage.  

AMNESTY CHIEF CALLS ON BANGABANDHU

The Chief of Amnesty International Sean Macbride calls on Bangabandhu today. He remains with Bangabandhu for about an hour.

INDONESIAN SUPPORT FOR REPATRIATION OF BANGLADESH ASSURED

Indonesian Foreign Minister Dr Adam Malik declares in Chittagong today that his government would spare no efforts for securing the repatriation of Bangalees stranded in Pakistan and would also strive to ensure Bangladesh membership in the United Nations.

BORDER LIKELY TO BE SEALED

Home Minister Abdul Mannan tells newsmen today that the government is determined to totally root out smuggling. Referring to the Indian offer to seal the Indo-Bangladesh border to check smuggling, the home minister says if it is found that for the greater interest of both countries it is necessary, then it would be done. Both governments are determined to put a stop to smuggling and therefore any step in this direction would be taken on mutual consultation with each other, adds the minister.
