Neo JMB man confesses to killing Nikhil
Alleged operative of "Neo JMB" Moslem Uddin alias Sohel yesterday told a Tangail court that he was involved in tailor Nikhil Chandra Joardar murder, police claimed.
Moslem, arrested by Detective Branch of police near Elenga Bus Stand in Kalihati upazila Saturday night, made a confessional statement before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court, said Ashok Kumar Singha, officer-in-charge of Tangail DB.
In his statement, Moslem, of Shakharia village in Gopalpur upazila, said he along with two other Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) men -- Nazrul alias Baik Nazrul and Rafiq alias Hridoy -- had killed Nikhil.
Of them, Nazrul, of Debiganj upazila in Panchagarh, was killed in a "gunfight" with police in Rajshahi recently, and Rafiq, of Belkuchi upazila in Sirajganj, is on the run, the DB official said.
Nikhil, 50, was hacked to death by unidentified criminals in front of his shop at Dubail Bazar in Gopalpur on April 30.
Law enforcers on the same day arrested three people, Rafiqul Islam Badsa, secretary of Gopalpur upazila unit of Jamaat-e-Islami, Aminul Islam, principal of Alamnagar Madrasa, and BNP activist Jhantu Miah, of Bilonlhara village in the upazila, in connection with the killing.
The trio was later shown arrested in the murder case filed by Nikhil's wife Arti Rani Joardar and another case filed under the Explosive Substances Act by Sub-Inspector Moksedul Alam of Gopalpur Police Station.
