Mitu Murder: Police quizzing 'arms supplier' again
Detectives in Chittagong yesterday started interrogating in custody Ehteshamul Haque alias Bhola, who allegedly supplied arms used in the sensational killing of Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, wife of former Superintendent of Police Babul Akter.
Bhola, who was reportedly a “source” of Babul, was taken in police custody from the Chittagong Central Jail yesterday afternoon.
Originally, a Chittagong court granted two days' remand for Bhola in August. But police did not question him in custody at the time, said Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Kamruzzaman of DB under Chittagong Metropolitan Police.
Earlier in July last year, police interrogated him in custody for eight days in two phases.
Police are now questioning him to find out who asked him to supply the arms, said Kamruzzaman, also the investigating officer of the case.
“We found some vital pieces of evidence and information. We will crosscheck those through interrogating Bhola,” he added.
Mitu, 32, was stabbed and shot to death at OR Nizam Road in the port city on June 5 last year.
On June 27, suspects Md Wasim and Anwar in their confessional statements before a court said seven to eight people led by Kamrul Sikder Musa took part in the murder, while Bhola supplied firearms.
Bhola was arrested the same day at Bakalia.
Police later arrested his associate Monir.
Police also recovered a pistol and a revolver from them, police said, adding that those were used in the killing.
