Life term is sentence unto death
Dispelling the confusion over the life imprisonment, Chief Justice SK Sinha yesterday said life term means imprisonment unto death.
“There are confusion and misinterpretation about life imprisonment. You think life imprisonment means 30 years. Actually, it's being misinterpreted. Life term means sentence for whole life,” he said.
The chief justice came up the explanation while speaking at a view-exchange meeting with officials of Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur.
Noting that he alone passed dissenting order in the jail killing case, SK Sinha said there was a conspiracy behind the killings and it was proven.
He lamented that those who had hatched the conspiracy were not punished and said punishment should be meted out to each of those who had masterminded the killings.
Inspector General of Prisons Brig Gen Syed Iftekhar Uddin, Gazipur Deputy Commissioner SM Alam and Superintendent of Police Super Harun Or Rashid were, among others, present at the programme.
Earlier, the chief justice visited different units of the jail and talked to the inmates. He also watched two documentaries on the jail.
