Injured cattle trader dies
A Bangladeshi cattle trader, who was shot by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Chapsar border in Thakurgaon's Haripur upazila 12 days ago, has died at a Siliguri hospital in India.
Mobarak Hossain, 32, died from his injuries at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital on Saturday noon, said Lt Col Jamal Hossain, commanding officer of BGB-2 Battalion in Dinajpur.
On September 9, Mobarak and another Bangladeshi cattle trader Moinul Haque were shot as BSF members of Moheshgaon camp opened fire on them on the border, said locals and sources at the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The two were reportedly trying to enter India.
The BSF personnel picked up Mobarak and later admitted him to Raiganj Hospital in Uttar Dinajpur of West Bengal.
He was shifted to the Siliguri hospital as his condition deteriorated and he died there, Lt Col Jamal told The Daily Star over the phone.
The BGB has strongly protested the incident of shooting on Bangladeshis. In a letter to the BSF, the BGB has also demanded that the body be returned.
In response, the BSF said they would return it on completion of formalities, Jamal added.
Injured Moinul had somehow fled from the Chapsar border that day. Later, he was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where he breathed his last on September 16.
