Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today ruled out the possibility of holding talks with BNP over the formation of a new election commission.
“No talks can be held with a killer,” she said adding, “BNP men have killed people by setting fire in line with the directives of the party chief Khaleda Zia.”
Hasina came up with the remarks while addressing a press conference at her Gono Bhaban residence in Dhaka on the outcomes of her recent visit to Hungary this afternoon.
The premier asked BNP to remember what the party has done over the formation of Election Commission when it was in power.
Criticising Khaleda Zia for her proposal on election commission, she said, “Prior to proposing such plan about election commission, she [Khaleda] should make an apology to the nation.”
AL to accept president’s decision on EC
Sheikh Hasina, also the president of ruling Awami League, said her party will accept whatever will be decided by the president over the constitution of a new election commission.
Have a look at the opinion: Powerless president now all-powerful?
“She has given her proposal. She should go to the president. I will accept the decision whatever will be taken by the president,” Hasina said without mentioning any name.
Hasina seeks int’l cooperation on Rohingya issue
PM Hasina called upon the world leaders to take proper initiative to put an end to the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar.
Saying that thousands of people including children and women are being repressed, she urged people across the world to be vocal to stop the violence.
Regarding the insurgents’ attack on Myanmar police officers on posts along the border with Bangladesh that killed nine cops on October 9, Hasina vowed that no culprit will get shelter in her country.
“I have already directed the law enforcement agencies to nab the culprits if anyone tries to take shelter in Bangladesh and handover them to Myanmar for legal step,” she said.
Technical disaster at Biman flight
Meanwhile, the premier said the Biman flight carrying her made the emergency landing at Turkmenistan airport on November 27 due to “technical catastrophe”.
“It was a technical catastrophe and accident also and there’s nothing to be worried. I am still alive and I want blessings from the people,” she said.
Responding to a reporter’s query, she said, ‘Time is yet to get momentum to buy a separate luxury aircraft for prime minister or president.”
She went to Budapest on a four-day tour on November 27 at the invitation of Hungarian President János Áder.
The VVIP flight with the premier made the emergency landing at Ashgabat International Airport in Turkmenistan on Sunday after a loose nut caused leakage of engine oil and pressure of engine No. 1 of the Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft down, the probe found.
After having the problem fixed, the aircraft “Ranga Pravhat” left Ashgabat Airport for Budapest.
The two countries signed four memorandums of understanding (MoUs) during Hasina's visit.
Due share of Teesta water
Expressing her optimism about sharing Teesta river water, the premier said, “I am going to visit India shortly and we are hopeful of signing a deal over a due share of water of the river.”
There are around 54 common rivers including Teesta between Bangladesh and India and discussion over sharing of Teesta river water is going on, she added.
JS complex to be beautified as per Kahn’s design
The government has brought the original design of the Jatiya Sangsad made by world famous architect Louis I Kahn.
“It will be displayed digitally so that people can learn about the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban,” she said.
She said, “We will beautify the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban according to the original design.”
