Head teacher injured in knife attack

A head teacher was knifed at a programme celebrating the birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Gopalpur upazila yesterday.

Seriously injured, Head teacher Rafiqul Islam was rushed to Gopalpur Upazila Health Complex and then to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The incident occurred at the gate of Baroshila High School when the institution was celebrating Bangabandhu's birth anniversary.

Additional Police Super of Tangail Shaikat Shaheen said Rafiqul Islam had a feud with Baroshila Government Primary School managing committee president Harun-or-Rashid Talukder over the land of the school.

Harun is a brother of Gopalpur upazila unit Awami League president Halimuzzaman Talukder.

Family members said the attack was a sequel to the feud over the land.

Officer-in-Charge of Gopalpur police Hasan Al Mamun said two persons -- Harun-or-Rashid Talukder and Yad Ali -- were detained on charge of their involvement in the attack.
