Ensure tough punishment for terror acts
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said the arrest of the culprits involved in terrorist acts is not enough, as they need to be given harsh punishment through disposal of their cases.
"The joint drive will continue against those engaged in terrorist and subversive acts,” she said, adding that the criminals should get tough punishment so that no one could cause harm to people in the future.
The PM came up with the remarks while videoconferencing with the district development coordination committee of Bogra and Satkhira at the Cabinet Division's conference room yesterday.
Hasina mentioned that her government's prime aim was to ensure peace and security of public life.
Those who burned people to death alive through hurling petrol bombs and caused huge damage to public property in the name of hartals and blockades must get the punishment, she said.
"Then joint drive will continue until the public lives become safe," she added.
After arresting the culprits, it has to be ensured that charge sheets are framed against them following filing of the cases, Hasina told her audience.
In this regard, she asked the law enforcement agencies and local administration to frame the charge sheets speedily. “Or else, the criminals would repeat their misdeeds after coming out of jail on bail.”
She also suggested continuing mobile courts in this connection.
The PM directed the local administration to give proper attention towards implementing the development works.
Agricultural produce in rural areas should have to be processed, preserved and marketed properly, she said, adding, “Cold storages, chilling system, processing and marketing system should be developed either in public or private initiatives.”
Hasina also directed the district administrations to look for suitable places to build mini stadiums at upazila level.
Responding to a request from the Bogra district council administrator to set up a railway track from Bogra to Sirajganj, Hasina said she would consider the matter later.
About water logging problem in Satkhira, the PM directed the authorities concerned to continue dredging of the Kapatakhha properly and adopt a measure so that the coastal embankments in the region were not affected for using water for shrimp enclosures.
At the videoconference, she also hinted about setting up the Rabindra University at Shahjadpur in Sirajganj.
