Customs Intelligence at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport detained a Bangladeshi cabin crew member of Kuwait Airways for allegedly smuggling in over half a kilogram of gold early yesterday.
Aslam Omar Belim, 45, was detained when he disembarked at the airport from KU 283 flight that came from Kuwait around 5:30am, said Customs Intelligence officials.
A team of Customs Intelligence, following a tip-off, searched him and found four gold bars, weighing around 466 grams, in his trousers' pockets, said Saiful Islam, an assistant revenue officer.
It also seized gold ornaments, weighing around 80 grams, from his luggage, he said.
Hailing from Dhaka, Aslam has been in the aviation sector for 17 years, according to Saiful.
