Bangladesh generates 10,000MW

Bangladesh's actual power generation yesterday crossed the milestone of 10,000 megawatts.

Yesterday's power generation was 10,084MW, said Saiful Hasan Chowdhury, director for public relations at the Bangladesh Power Development Board.

“This is the highest power generation in Bangladesh's history,” he added.

The government is committed to ensuring access to electricity for the entire population by 2021.

It is expected that 100 percent electricity coverage would be possible much before 2021, according to the Power Cell under the Power Division.

In 2009, the access to electricity was 47 percent which is now at 83 percent, it added.

As of 2017, the government increased installed power generation capacity to 16,046MW from 4,942MW in 2009.
