Musical treat to hail Pahela Baishakh
With the theme “Chitto Jaguk Gaan-e Geet-e Kabye Kathaye”, Bengal Foundation is all set to hail Bangla New Year 1423. A five-day (April 9-13) music festival marking Pahela Baishakh will begin tomorrow at 7pm everyday at Bengal Shilpalaya.
The five-day special programme will feature Nazrul Sangeet, Rabindra Sangeet, Three Poets' compositions and Raga-based songs, folk music and classical music.
The first session of the opening day's (April 9) event will start at 10:30am and will set off with choral songs performance by child artistes, recitation and presentation of dance by Geetobitan Bangladesh, artistes of Sylhet and Maple Leaf International School. The session will also include puppet show by Bangladesh Putul Natya Gabeshona O Unnayan Kendra, Jahangirnagar University.
The second session of the day, hosted by noted elocutionist Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, will be dedicated to Nazrul Sangeet. The featured artistes of the evening are Champa Bonik, Shahid Kabir Palash, Latifun Julio, Bizon Chandra Mistry, Mohammad Shoeb, Sharmin Sathi Islam, Nasima Shaheen, Yakub Ali Khan and Khairul Anam Shakil.
The evening of April 10 will be devoted to Rabindra Sangeet, featuring artistes like Shemonty Monjari, Farhin Nusrat Joyeeta, Saikat Majumdar, Nirjhar Chowdhury, Aditi Mohsin, Laisa Ahmed Lisa, Bulbul Islam, Shama Rahman, Fahim Hossain Chowdhury, Mohiuzzaman Chowdhury and Rezwana Chowdhury Bonnya. Hasan Arif will anchor the event, and recite poems.
Hosted by Luva Nahid Choudhury, “Tin Kobi O Ragashrayee Sangeet Sandhya” will be held on April 11. The featured artistes of the evening are Farhana Rahman Kanta, Aloke Kumar Sen, Mahmudul Hasan, Anindita Chowdhury, Jhuma Khandakar, Tanveer Alam Shawjeeb, Subir Nandi and Iffat Ara Dewan.
Loko Sangeet Sandhya (folk music) will be featured in the evening of April 12. Noted singer Kiran Chandra Roy will emcee the event that will have dotara recital by Faizur Rahman; group instrumental recital by Moniruzzaman (banshi), Yusuf Khan (sarod), Nuruzzaman Badsha (violin), Ekram Hossain (esraj) and Iftekhar Alam Dollar (tabla) and performance of songs by Labik Kamal Gourab, Bhajan Baul, Siddikur Rahman, Halima Parveen, Biman Chandra Biswas, Chandana Majumdar and Kiran Chandra Roy.
Uchchanga Sangeet Sandhya will take place on April 13. Three brothers – Sabij Ahmed (tabla), Shanta Ahmed (violin) and Kamrul Ahmed (banshi) will present a group recital. Parampara artiste Razia Sultana with Mir Naqibul Islam on pakhawaj will offer a dhrupad. Mohan Veena artiste Dolon Kanungo will pair with Swarup Hossain (tabla) to perform another recital. Parampara students Borsha Majumdar and Priyanka Das will render khayal with Sabuj Ahmed on tabla and Supriya Das on harmonium. Ebadul Huq Shaikat will play his sitar while Priyanka Gope will perform a khayal.
