Abbas Uddin International Bhawaiya Festival in Rangpur
A three-day Abbas Uddin International Bhawaiya Festival 2018 has opened here in Rangpur city on Thursday, amid much festivity.
The festival will close today 9Saturday March 10), according to organisers.
Cultural Affairs ministry and Bhawaiya Sangsad of Dhaka are jointly supporting in holding the festival.
Asaduzzaman Noor, Minister of Cultural Affairs inaugurated the festival at Rangpur Town Hall compound.
After the inauguration, a festival procession was brought out from the venue which paraded different streets of Rangpur performing songs and dances, before it ended at the Town hall compound.
The programmes start at 4pm everyday and continue till 10pm through the weekend at Town Hall ground in Rangpur city. Renowned Bhawaiya singers of India and Bangladesh, including Siraj Uddin, are performing at the festival. The entire venue area is wearing a decorative look marking the fest.
Bangladesh Betar's Rangpur unit is airing the festival, said Salahuddin Ahmed, Deputy Director (Programme) of the state-run radio.
Osman Mia, a Bhawya music lover from Rangpur city said that this unique genre of music is much popular in Rangpur. He thanked the organisers for arranging the programme.
Babul Mia, Officer in Charge of Rangpur Sadar police station said police have taken all security measures to avert any untoward incidents.
