SAARC Traditional Dance Festival and Handicrafts Exhibit begins today at BSA
A four day SAARC Traditional Dance Festival, Handicrafts Exhibit and Workshop begins today at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), featuring dance forms and handicrafts from Bangladesh, India, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Maldives.
BSA is organising the festival with support from the Cultural Affairs Ministry and SAARC Cultural Centre, the opening ceremony will be held at 5:30pm today at the Nandan Mancha. The closing ceremony will take place at the main auditorium of the National Theatre Hall.
The disclosures were made at the BSA seminar hall yesterday, where SAARC Cultural Centre Director Wasante Kotuwella, Deputy Director Kishani Jayasinghe Wijayasekara and others were present. BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky chaired the session.
Bangladesh's traditional 'lathi khela' will take place at the open space of BSA on November 30 and December 1. On December 1 and 2, National Theatre Hall will be the venue for traditional dance performances by artistes from Bangladesh, India, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka. The SAARC handicrafts exhibit will be held at the National Art Gallery Plaza from 11am-8pm, where artisans from Bhutan, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will display their crafts.
Two separate workshops will also be held as part of the event. The handicrafts workshop will take place from 10am-5pm on December 1-2 at Gallery 4 of the National Art Gallery, while the dance workshop will take place at the National Theatre Hall Seminar Room. Artist Kamruzzaman Shadhin will conduct the handicrafts workshop, while noted dancer Tamanna Rahman will be the chief coordinator of the dance workshop.
