On growing fame and respite
Popular actor Niloy Alamgir enjoyed some success as a professional model before advancing towards the small screen. As his popularity continues to grow, the actor is increasingly busy with drama series and single episode plays, some of which have already gone on air this year. In a recent conversation with The Daily Star, the actor shares some tidbits about how he winds down despite having such a busy schedule, and more.
What are you currently busy with?
Niloy: Acting projects fill up my life now. I have taken on some drama series, and will appear in “Priyo Din Priyo Raat” and “Maya Masnad”, helmed by Salahuddin Lavlu. Other plays include Murad Parvez's “Sritir Alpona Aaki”, Golam Shohrab Dulal's “Moddhyoma”, Kawsar Ahmed's “Mohaguru”, Fazlul Karim's “Ulta Pothe Ulta Roth”, Al Hazen's “Sukher Bhetor Oshukh”, Mujibul Islam Khokon's “Nanan Ronger Manush”, and Shaheen Sarkar's “Dulabhai Zindabad” and “Gyaani ar Gyanijoner Podocharona”.
How do you make time for yourself in the midst of such a busy schedule?
Niloy: It isn't as hard as it seems as filming is not scheduled on a daily basis. My favourite time of the day is dusk, and night time. It's the perfect time for contemplation. But that is not to say that I don't prefer the day because of work; I love my job, and I never tire of it.
What do you like doing in your free time?
Niloy: I love watching movies, and listening to music. I'm often on my phone when I have a spare moment to myself. When I have a few hours or a day I drive to nearby places on the outskirts of the city.
As your fame continues to grow, how do you find yourself coping with it?
Niloy: Popularity is not something you can ask for and therefore I look at it as a blessing from God. People often want to take selfies with me, or have a chat, and I'm never tired of the attention. I do what I do so that people love me, otherwise my work wouldn't be as fulfilling.
What goals do you hope to achieve in your career?
Niloy: I would like to be involved in projects that people remember for years to come. I am very grateful for all the projects that are offered to me, and I hope to keep coming across great scripts.
What venture first brought you public attention?
Niloy: It would be a TVC I did for Banglalink. I never had to look back since then. People talked about it for a long time, and amazing offers kept coming my way since then.
What was your first on camera experience like?
Niloy: My first filming experience was for a TVC featuring Keya White Plus, where Nawsheen was my co-artiste. I remember reaching the sets at 7am, but filming did not start until 9pm. The filming unit was so helpful, that it alleviated any nervousness I had felt. It was a really fun experience overall.
You have also worked in a film, but have not taken many big screen roles. Is there a reason for that?
Niloy: In 2011 I was first featured in a film titled “Bailey Road”, and after that I worked on four films. There was a time when I really aspired to be a film actor, but my priorities have changed since. I'm happy doing TV plays, and I have made it my sole focus for now.
