Shehnai recital at IGCC
Indira Gandhi Culture Centre is organising a Shehnai Recital evening by ICCR troupe from India at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, Gulshan at 6pm on Wednesday (January 27).
A four-member shehnai group has been sent by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, India, to participate in the Republic Day celebrations being organised by the High Commission of India. The group will be led by brothers Sanjeev and Ashwani Shankar, who will play the shehnai and will have accompanists Anand Shankar on dukkad and Mithilesh Kumar Jha on tabla.
Sanjeev and Ashwini are sons of internationally acclaimed shehnai maestro Pandit Daya Shankar and grandsons of the legendary shehnai virtuoso late Pandit Anant Lal of the Benaras Gharana. They won the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademy's Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Purashkar for the year 2010-11.The brothers have given a large number of performances in India and abroad.
