Arsonists will be shot on sight: Mohsin
Arsonists and saboteurs will be shot on sight, Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali said today while admitting the government’s failure in providing security to the people.
“We are going to take a decision to shoot arsonists and saboteurs on sight,” the minister said while visiting violence victims at Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s burn unit this morning.
“No need to try them under the speedy trials act. We want to declare a war against them… This can no longer be tolerated,” he said. “An arrangement will be made in this regard by a week.”
The minister visited the burn unit around 11:00am to see the arson victims of the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s countrywide blockade programme that entered 15th day today.
He admitted the government’s failure to provide security for the citizen and termed the incident “upsetting” and added that its toll on the people was “a violation of the human rights.”
At least 25 people have died from the political violence that ensued centering the first anniversary of January 5 election programme of ruling Awami League and opposing BNP.
Minister Mohsin drew flak in the past for blurting out unruly language to the media, smoking on stage during a children’s programme and other “odd” activities.
