Arms, ammo seized, 11 arrested
Law enforcers in separate drives have arrested eleven alleged criminals and recovered three firearms, seven bullets and 37 bombs in Meherpur and Chapainawabganj districts.
Police arrested cadre of an outlawed party and recovered firearms and ammunition from his possession at Gopalpur village in Mujibnagar upazila of Meherpur early Monday.
The 'outlaw' was identified as Shah Jamal Hossain, 42, son of Hossain Ali of the village, reports our Kushtia correspondent.
Jamal, accused in five different cases including two for murder, was a top cadre of Janajuddha faction of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-ML), police said.
Police recovered an LG and five bullets from his possession.
In a drive, Rab-6 arrested four alleged robbers when they were taking preparation to commit robbery at Jorapukuria village in Gangni upazila of Meherpur on Sunday night.
Golam Rabbani, commander of Rab-6 in Gangni told this correspondent, that they raided JTS High School when a group of robbers were holding a secret meeting to plan a robbery in the area at about 11:30pm.
The arrested four robbers are Kabirul Islam, 24, Jamirul Islam, 45, Tanzil Hossain, 26 and Sabuj Hossain, 30.
Rab also recovered two shutter guns, four bombs, two bullets and two swords from them.
In Chapainawabganj, members of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested six people with 33 hand made bombs in Ramchandrapur Haat area of Sadar upazila yesterday.
The arrestees were identified as Kawsar Ali, 45, Liton Ali, 20, Alamgir Hossain, 18, Emon Ali, 18, Jahangir Alam, 25, and Ali Ahmed, 18, of different villages under Ranhati union of Sadar upazila, reports our correspondent.
Two gangs of Ramchandrapur Haat area engaged in a clash at noon over establishing supremacy in the area. They chased each other with hand made bombs and sharp weapons. A gang also set on fire two shops at Ramchandrapur Haat.
On information, a team of Rab-5 from Chapainawabganj camp rushed to the area and caught six people red handed around 2:15pm and recovered 33 bombs, two machetes and four bottles of petrol from their possession, said Major Kamruzzaman Pavel.
