The High Court today granted bail to BNP Joint Secretary General Amanullah Aman for six months in five separate vandalism and arson attack cases.
Barrister Ragip Rouf Chowdhury, a lawyer for Aman, told The Daily Star there is no legal bar to his client's release from the jail following the court order.
The HC bench of Justice Borhanuddin and Justice KM Kamrul Kader came up with the order after holding hearing on five separate bail petitions filed by Aman.
The government will file appeal soon with the Supreme Court against the HC order, said Md Selim, deputy attorney general.
He said Aman secured bail in the cases filed with Keraniganj and Savar police stations in November last year for vandalising vehicles and conducting arson attacks during anti-government demonstration of BNP-led 18-party alliance.
