ACC in ‘jihad’ against corruption, says commissioner
Acting chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) M Shahabuddin today said the commission has declared ‘jihad’ (vigorous campaign for a cause) against pervasive corruption in the country.
“We announce our solidarity with the anti-corruption movement that continues globally…we have declared ‘jihad’ against corruption,” he said at a human chain programme in the capital.
The ACC organised the programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club marking the ‘International Anti-Corruption Day 2014’.
Speaking on the occasion, Shahabuddin said: “We’re committed to build Sonar Bangla - a country free from poverty and hunger. Corruption must be eliminated to build the country as Sonar Bangla, which will be free from poverty and hunger.”
He said the commission is making its best efforts to check graft in the country.
Earlier in the morning, the national anti-graft body brought out a procession, led by its acting chairman M Shahabuddin, from the ACC head office. The procession ended at the same venue after parading Kakrail, Bijoynagar, Paltan and Jatiya Press Club points.
The ACC also arranged discussions, anti-corruption cultural programmes, screening of documentaries, and talk-shows on radio and TV channels marking the day.
The International Anti-Corruption Day 2014 is being observed in the country today as elsewhere in the world, aiming to raise voice against the growing graft, which the UN says, attacks the foundation of democratic institutions.
This year’s theme of the day is: ‘Break the corruption chain’.
