Abducted Dhaka student killed
The body of a college student who had been abducted from the capital's Kalyanpur area a week ago, was recovered from Santhia upazila of Pabna on Tuesday night.
The victim was identified as Md Golam Rabbi, 21, son of Anwar Hossain, a resident of the capital's Kalyanpur area, said Shahed Mahamud, officer-in-charge of Santhia police station.
Rabbi was a BBA first year student of Institute of Science and Technology, Dhaka.
The killers had demanded a ransom of Tk 10 lakh, according to police and family sources.
The victim's father Anwar Hossain said his son had gone to Mirpur on November 19 to see a friend named Anik but he never came back.
"The next morning I received a text message from Rabbi's mobile asking me to provide the kidnappers with a ransom of Tk 10 lakh. A few hours later someone called from the same number demanding the money. But I filed a case with Mirpur police station immediately," Anwar said.
"They are still texting me and calling me from a different number demanding the money," he added.
Police recovered the decomposed body from the Goran Beel of Santhia upazila around 8:30pm on Tuesday upon information received from locals.
The decomposed body indicates that he had been killed a day or two earlier than Tuesday, said Pabna police sources.
There were no wounds or bruises on the body. Perhaps he was strangled to death, they added.
Officials of Mirpur model police station said they had started investigation soon after they received the complaint from Anwar.
"We tracked Rabbi's mobile location in Pabna's Santhia area, using technology," said sub-Inspector Md Masud Parvez of Mirpur model police station.
Asked why the killers were yet to be tracked down, Masud said the investigation was on.
"We've already found some clues and we're making progress in our investigation. We cannot disclose anything more at this point," he said.
Pabna police sent the body to Pabna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy yesterday morning.
