Abducted Dhaka businessman rescued, 5 held
Two days into his abduction from Bangshal in the capital, a businessman was rescued and five alleged kidnappers were arrested in Jurain area early today.
Meanwhile, another businessman was freed a day after his abduction in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali. Five people were detained in this connection.
In Dhaka, police conducted a raid in Jurain area around 5:00am and rescued Abdul Hakim, 50, a spare parts trader, from a house in a narrow lane, Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said at a press briefing at DMP media centre in the capital.
The team arrested Mohammad Rana, 25, Shamsuddin Ahmed, 24, and Mohammad Hridoy, 20, from the residence on charges of abducting Hakim.
Based on their information, the law enforcers nabbed two women -- Nishi Begum, 26, and Bhagya Rani, 23 -- from Bangshal and Shyampur in this connection, the DMP official said.
Hakim was abducted from Bangshal on Thursday.
After the kidnapping, the abductors demanded over TK 3 lakh as ransom from the family members of Hakim, the police official added.
NOAKHALI
A construction materials businessman, Abdul Bashar, was freed around 10:00am today, a day after he was abducted in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali.
Bashar, 42, was found blindfolded beside a road in Banglabazar area of the upazila, reports our Noakhali correspondent quoting ASM Ashrafuzzaman, additional superintendent of police of the district.
Informed by locals, police rescued Bashar from Banglabazar, the police official said.
Three armed kidnappers abducted Bashar from Alaiapur village in the upazila yesterday afternoon and demanded Tk 5 lakh as ransom from his family members, the victim said.
After his abduction, police raided all the possible areas in the upazila and nabbed five people in this connection
Two of the detainees were identified as Farhad and Jewel.
