8 JMB militants arrested over Trishal incident remanded
A Mymensingh court yesterday placed eight members of outlawed Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) on a tree-day remand in the case for snatching three militants of the party by ambushing a prison van and killing a constable in Trishal in February this year.
They are Kamal Hossain alias Sabuj, Yusuf Ali alias Sohagh, Sohel Rana, Morshed Alam, Ilias Uddin, Abu Bakar Siddique alias Swapon, Basir Uddin and Anwar Hossain.
CID (Criminal Investigation Department) personnel produced them in the Cognisance Court No 4 at around 1:00pm, seeking a five-day remand. The court granted only three days and sent the JMB men to Mymensingh Central Jail.
Armed JMB militants ambushed a prison van and snatched away three party men in Trishal upazila of Mymensingh on February 23.
A police constable was killed as the attackers opened fire and hurled crude bombs at the prison van at Signboard point of Aminabari area around 10:00am. The dead, Atiqul Islam, was posted at Gazipur Police Station.
Police filed two cases against the JMB men with Trishal Police Station---one under the Explosive Substances Act and another for snatching three militants by ambushing a prison van and killing a constable.
In Sirajganj, a court here yesterday placed four JMB men, including its chief coordinator, on an eight-day fresh remand in two separate cases.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Sadia Sultana passed the order when police produced them before the court on completion of their three-day remand, reports UNB.
The militants are JMB chief coordinator Abdun Nur, 31, its Ehsar (policymaking body) member Nuruzzaman, and members Abul Kalam Azad and Faruk Ahmed.
Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-2 conducted a drive at Shaheed Mansur Ali Railway Station in Sadar upazila in the early hours of October 31 and arrested the four members of the banned outfit.
The elite force also recovered electronic detonators, four time bombs, 55 jihadi books, 45 button-operated circuits and one power regulator from their possession.
Rab filed two cases- one under the Anti-terrorism (Amendment) Act and the other under the Explosive Substances Act. On November 6, a Sirajganj court placed the JMB men on three-day remand each.
