7 Hizb ut-Tahrir men arrested in Ctg city
Police claimed detention of 12 activists of banned Islamist outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir from a Chittagong city mosque today after the Jumah prayers.
They were distributing anti-government leaflets and chanting slogans in Andarkillah mosque, reports our Chittagong correspondent quoting Kamruzzaman, a sub-inspector at Chittagong’s Kotwali Police Station.
“Seven of them admitted their involvement during their primary interrogation that they belong to Hizb ut-Tahrir,” he said. “They were asking people to raise their voice against the government.”
The rest five men have however been released, the police official said.
On information, police rushed to the mosque and detained them over instigating people’s religious sentiment.
“The campaigners were trying to garner support for a tough anti-government movement,” the SI told The Daily Star citing the detainees’ confessions during questioning.
Process is underway to file a case against the detainees, he added. Details about the detainees could not be known immediately.
