60 eminent N'ganj residents issue condemnation
Sixty noted personalities in Narayanganj district yesterday issued a statement, condemning Awami League leader Shamim Osman's immoderate disparagement of Narayanganj city Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy during a television talk show on Tuesday.
In a statement, they said Shamim was trying to malign Ivy and her family when she raised voice against the killing of Tanwir Mohammed Taqi last year and the abduction and murders of seven people in late April.
The statement said, "The people must give a fitting response to the audacious, uncouth remarks of Shamim some day. History will never forgive him."
Among the signatories were Abdur Rahman of Narayanganj Nagorik Committee, Jahirul Islam of Kendriyo Khelaghar, Abu Nayem Khan Biplob of Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, and Rafiur Rabbi of Santrash Nirmul Taqi Mancha.
Shamim launched a personal attack on Ivy during Ekattor TV's talk show "Ekattor Sangjog" on Tuesday. They were invited to talk about the murders of seven people in Narayanganj.
Quoting a Facebook status of one of the three guests, Golam Mortoza, editor of the weekly Saptahik, the Prothom Alo reported on Thursday that Shamim even tried to physically attack Ivy towards the end of the programme.
