48 women MPs elected unopposed
The Election Commission today declared 48 women lawmakers elected unopposed from reserved seats as there were no rival candidates.
The eleciton office issued a notice on this, Forhad Hossain, assistant returning officer of the election, confirmed to The Daily Star today.
The commission may publish a gazette within the day or the next, he said.
Out of 50 reserved seats of women lawmakers, nominations of two candidates were cancelled for defaulting on telephone bills, said Hossain, also assistant secretary to the EC secretariat.
The commission fixed March 29 for holding the polls for reserved seat, but the date was later moved to April 3.
