4 women held for stealing infant from DMCH
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) rescued a newborn female baby at the capital’s Lalbagh and picked up four women members of a gang involved in stealing and selling infants.
On information that the gang was attempting to sell a two-week-old baby, the elite force members raided the house of the gang’s ring leader, Monowara, and made the recovery and arrests, said Lt Col Khandaker Golam Sarwar, commanding officer of Rab-3.
At a press briefing at Dhaka Medical College Hospital premises this evening, the CO said the identity of the infant could not be known immediately.
The detainees are: Farida Khanam and Zahanara are special Aya (assistants) of the DMCH, Ferdousi, who shares husband with Monowara (sotin), and Rozina alias Rozi. Monowara is on the run.
A Rab officer preferring anonymity said they were going to sell the baby in exchange for around Tk 70 thousand.
As the baby was stolen soon after his birth, the Rab handed the baby to the DMCH authorities for her treatment.
