4 die falling from freight train in Joypurhat
Police said one of them died on the spot while three others succumbed to their injuries at Joypurhat Sadar Hospital.
The identities of the deceased were not available immediately.
The accident took place around 4:45pm in Shimultoli area, Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, officer-in-charge of Panchbibi Police Station, told The Daily Star Online.
He said two fuel-laden wagons got accidentally untied from the main train in Shimultoli area.
When the loco master noticed the incident, he stopped the train and pulled it back, resulting in a crash with the two wagons which were still moving, said the OC.
At least 22 people travelling on the freight train fell onto the ground, said the officer adding one died on the spot while others sustained critical injuries.
Of the injured, three died at Joypurhat Sadar Hospital, Biman Chandra Karmakar, assistant superintendent of police in Joypurhat, told The Daily Star Online.
He said the death toll may go up as some of the injured are in very critical condition.
