Four people were burnt after an engine of a fishing boat carrying at least eight people exploded in Karnaphuli river in Chittagong city this morning.
The injured -- Nur Uddin, 45, Md Alamgir, 45, Md Liton, 30, and Md Akbar, 25 -- are undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).
Of them, Liton suffers 95 percent burn injuries, Nayek Abul Bashar of CMCH police camp told our Chittagong correspondent.
The engine went off with a big bang as the boatman started the engine after refueling from an oil tanker in the middle of the river around 10:45am, Akbar, one of the victims, told our correspondent.
“We (the four injured victims) jumped in the river soon after the explosion,” Akbar added.
