4 accused flee Dhaka court dock
Four suspended BCL activists fled the dock today after a Dhaka court cancelled their bail in Jahangirnagar University student Zubair Ahmed murder case.
Khandaker Ashikul Islam alias Ashik, Khan Mohammad Rais, Ishtiaq Mehbub Arup and Mahabub Akram escape from the courtroom soon after Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge ABM Nizamul Haque ordered them to land in jail.
All the 13 accused in the case were expelled from Bangladesh Chhatra League following the murder of the JU student.
The court also cancelled bail of another two accused ----- Rashedul Islam and Zahidul Hasan -- and issued arrest warrants against them as they did not appear before the court.
During the hearing, the court cancelled bail of the six out of the 13 accused of the case after Public Prosecutor SM Rafiqul Islam placed a petition.
PP Islam submitted the petition on January 23 after they reportedly beat up two witnesses in front of Dhaka District Judge’s Court on January 18.
The tribunal framed charges against the 13 in connection with the murder case on September 8 2012.
The seven other accused were already on bail.
Zubair, an honours final year student of English department of JU, was allegedly tortured and stabbed by the accused on January 8 of 2012.
He succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in the capital on the next day.
Following Zubair's death, JU Deputy Registrar Hamidur Rahman filed the case with Ashulia Police Station.
