Law enforcers produce a pistol, 10 sharp weapons, looted money, a private car (not seen in the photo) and other equipment used to break locks before reporters after they seized the items from the procession of a robber gang in Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur on Friday.

Three alleged robbers were killed and another injured in a 'shootout' between their cohorts and police in Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur early today.

The deceased are Jahangir Hossain Anwar, 28, Ripon Miah, 35, and Ahmed Ali, 35, reports our Rangpur correspondent quoting Moazzem Hossain, officer-in-charge of Mithapukur Police Station.

The OC said a gang of six robbers looted Tk 1.19 lakh from Shathibari Petrol Pump on Dhaka-Rangpur highway in the early hours today.

Informed by the petrol pump staff around 5:00am, police chased the private car carrying the bandits, the OC said.

Sensing danger, the bandits shot at the lawmen, forcing them to fire back, triggering an hour-long gunfight, the police officer said.

At one stage, the robbers parked the car and got off the vehicle at Boldipukur, 10 kilometres from the petrol pump.

Four of the bandits were hit by bullets during the gunfight, leaving Jahangir dead on the spot.

Ripon succumbed to his injuries at Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex soon after the incident while Ali died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital at 1:30pm.

Police however managed to arrest rest of the gang including one with bullet wounds and took them to the police station for interrogation.

Police seized a pistol, 10 sharp weapons, the private car and looted money from the possession of the robbers.
