3 killed in Gopalganj road crash

Three people were killed and 30 injured as a bus plunged into a roadside ditch beside Dhaka-Khulna highway in Kashiani upazila of Gopalganj early today.

The deceased are: Wadud Mridha, 70, and Khokon Malik, 28, of Narail and Fojdar Mia, 70, of Netrakona, reports our Gopalganj correspondent.

The accident might be occurred due to negligence of the driver as he was sleepy, Swapna Begum, an injured passenger, told The Daily Star.

The OC said the bus fell into the ditch after the driver lost his control over the steering at Pona around 3:45am, leaving its three passengers dead on the spot and 30 other injured.

The injured were rushed to different hospitals including Kashiani Upazila Health Complex and Gopalganj Sadar Hospital.

Protesting the road accident, local people blocked the highway for an hour, said Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kashiani Police Station.
