2 transport workers shot dead in Noakhali
Miscreants gunned down two transport workers in Chatkhil upazila of Noakhali early today.
Two people – Monir Hossain, 36, and Abdul Mannan, 24, -- were also injured during the attack. They were rushed to Noakhali Medical College Hospital and Chatkhil upazila Health Complex respectively, reports our Noakhali correspondent.
The deceased are: Kamal Hossain, 28, ticket counter manager of ‘Moon Star Paribahan’ at Dashgharia bus stand and son of Amirul Islam; and Dulal Hossain, 30, a rickshaw-van driver and son of Md Ibrahim of Hajibari in the Chatkhil municipality.
Two masked gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire to Dulal at Chatkhil Bazar around 5:30am leaving him died on the spot, said Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Chatkhil police station.
Monir and Mannan, who were in the Bazar area, were also hit by bullets, the police official said.
Around 15 minutes into the incident, Kamal came under gun attack presumably by the same gang at Dashgharia Bazar, the OC said.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the medical college hospital morgue for autopsy.
Talking to The Daily Star, Superintendent of Police of Noakhali Md Ilias Sharif claimed that Khorshed, a local robber, might be involved with the killing.
Police have been investigating reason behind the killings, he said.
Soon after the killings, local people blocked Chatkhil-Dhaka and Chatkhil-Ramganj road for nearly one hour.
Police however brought the situation under control. Armed police have also been deployed in the area to avert further untoward incident.
