At least two robbers were killed in an alleged gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) personnel in the Sundarbans’ Khulna range this afternoon.
The dead were identified as Dulu, 42, chief of notorious Dulu Bahini, and Bacchu, his second-in command, 38, reports our Bagerhat correspondent.
The lawmen earlier in the morning captured six robbers and recovered nine firearms and around 400 rounds of ammunition from their possession at Mongla jetty in Bagerhat, said Lt Commander Gulzar Hossain of Rab-8.
The Rab men took the alleged robbers to their rendezvous point in Bhadra camp area to capture the rest of their cohorts around 3:30pm when they faced heavy firing from a boat, the official added.
In retaliation, the elite force personnel fired 294 rounds of bullet, he said.
After 15 minutes of gunfight, the law enforcers recovered the bodies of the two robbers, the Rab official added.
The elite force handed over the bodies, firearms, ammo and the detainees to Mongla Police Station, he said.
