15 Rangpur JP men injured in rival faction’s bomb attack
At least 15 Jatiya Party men were injured in a crude bomb attack on a rally by the activists of a rival faction in Rangpur city this afternoon.
The district and city convening committees formed on September 10 organised the rally at Shapla Chattar in the city, reports our Rangpur correspondent.
All on a sudden, the supporters of JP leader Mashiur Rahman Ranga allegedly hurled five handmade bombs on the rally around 12:30pm, leaving at least 15 activists injured, said Hossain Makbul Shahriar Asif, a former lawmaker and a member secretary of the newly formed district committee.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ranga was relieved from the post of party’s presidium members by JP chief HM Ershad on September 10.
The injured were rushed to the Rangpur Medical College and Hospital.
Earlier, district administration imposed section 144 at Rangpur Public Library ground and its adjacent areas to avert any untoward incident, as these two rival factions called for rallies at the same venue at same time, forcing the new committees to move their rally to the Shapla Chattar.
