13 rescued Bangladeshis return from Iran
Thirteen Bangladeshi workers, who were rescued by Iranian police from human traffickers, returned home this morning.
A man allegedly involved in trafficking the 13 victims has also been brought back to the country.
The rescued are: Mazharul Islam, Ajgar Ali, Jewel Rana, Ali Ahmed, Didarul Alam, Zakir Sarder, Mohammad Ali, Modasser Majumder, Ali Akbar, Akhter Mia, Wasim Chandra, Aman Ullah and Shaheen Mollah.
The suspected trafficker, Irfan Mia from Cox's Bazar, was arrested by Criminal Investigation Department of Police from the airport.
A flight carrying the victims and arrested human trafficker landed at Shahjalal International Airport around 9:30am today, Mujibur Rahman, assistant superintendent of CID police, told The Daily Star.
The police official said the victims were working at Dubai in United Arab Emirates.
"A gang of Bangladeshi traffickers allured them to migrate to Iraq via Iran for better opportunities, and sent them to Iran between February and March," he said.
The traffickers took away the workers' documents, confined and tortured them and asked for ransom from their families in Bangladesh, the police official added.
Acting on a tip-off, Iran police on March 17 rescued the 13 workers and arrested one trafficker, the ASP said.
Rights Jessore, a Bangladeshi NGO, in assistance of Bangladesh Embassy in Iran and CID brought the rescued men.
