Our Correspondent, Patuakhali

Over 100 fishermen, who were abducted on August 18, could not be rescued in the last 14 days.

Raju Bahini, a gang of notorious robbers, kidnapped the fishermen from Dhalchar and Majher Char areas under Barguna district on the day.

A fisherman, who returned from the Bay a couple of days ago, told the trawler owners in Mohipur area under Kalapra upazila that the robbers abducted over 100 fishermen while they were fishing in the Bay.

The gang gave a mobile number to the fishermen to contact them along with the ransom money, he said.

They also asked the fishermen to collect token by paying up to Tk one lakh per trawler for fishing in the Bay in the on-going season, said Al- Amin, a fisherman of FB Haque trawler.

We are very worried as the gang threatened us and we could neither inform it to law enforcing agencies or newsmen, he said.

Raju Bahini has become very desperate in the Bay this season, said Ansar Uddin Mollah, president of Alipur Trawler Owners Association.

We are bargaining with the ring leader secretly to free our fishermen, Golam Mostafa Chowdhury, president of Barguna district fishing trawler owner association told this correspondent.

Fishermen are passing worrisome time over frequent robberies in the Bay that hampers fishing, he added.

Contacted, Lieutenant Arif, contingent commander for the Coast Guard in Pathorghata, said the area was under West Zone and they will take necessary action after investigation.
