1 MINUTE PLEASE!
Being a freedom fighter himself, eminent artist Biren Shome loves to work on the history of Bangladesh, and the war that brought freedom to the country and its people. For over four decades, the maestro has been enriching the art scene of the country with his works. At present he is busy with his upcoming exhibition to be held in December on Panam city. His book 'Bangladesher Shadhinota Shongrame Shilpi Shomajer Bhumika,' which documents the heroic contributions and significance of artists in the birth of the country, will also be released in the same month. This week we bring you a brief conversation with this extremely talented, publicity-shy artist.
Significant Achievement
I have been rewarded with many noteworthy awards, namely the Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Award, Atish Dipankar Gold Medal, Poet Abu Zafar Obaidullah Award, and these have boosted me to strive for more. However, the greatest achievement of my career was getting to know Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin closely and observing him while he worked on his paintings.
Favourite Art Medium
Oil is my preferred medium, but I love working in acrylic too.
Colour You Use Over and Over Again
I love playing with black and red to portray revolution, war and despair. Also, I use blue and green a lot in my nature-themed paintings.
Your Mentor
In Bangladesh, the most influential mentors in my career have been Muhammed Kibria and Amirul Islam. From a more global perspective, Matisse and Picasso have inspired me a lot.
A Dream Yet to be Fulfilled
I am always seeking to excel myself and am striving for excellence and self-satisfaction in my artwork. I dream of reaching my full potential and creating an artwork that I will be completely satisfied with.
