Celebrating Pahela Boishakh

Children, teenagers and adults all celebrate the coming of the Bangla New Year, Pahela Boishakh. Dressed in traditional Boishakhi colours like red and white, everyone gets ready to have a day of fun be it at Charukala or any other mela. People feast on tasty pithas, buy flowers and bangles, take fun rides on the nagordolas, sing traditional songs of Boishakh, get their faces or other parts of their bodies painted and generally engage in the Pahela Boishakh spirit that seems to fill the air with laughter and warmth.
