Khaleda calls voters to guard centres: Rizvi

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has sent word from jail calling voters to guard polling centres until the declaration of results, BNP claimed today.

The party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed read out “Khaleda’s message” at a press conference from BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.

“I request you (people) to stand in queue for vote after offering Fazr prayers. Guard the centres and stay there until the result is announced,” Rizvi quoted as Khaleda saying.

“You will get a chance tomorrow to rid the autocratic rule. Go to the poling centres in groups ignoring all the threats to free the country and its people. Your votes can ensure people’s relief and can build a democratic Bangladesh,” Khaleda said to have said.

To the polling agents, “she said”: “You go along with results and presiding officers to the returning or assistant returning officers’ offices.”

Khaleda Zia landed in jail back in February this year after her conviction in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case, where she was handed a five-year jail term.

Later, she was also convicted in Zia Charitable Trust graft case and handed a seven-year term.
