Revisiting the music scene of '14

Yet another year escaped from the world of music amid a number of events. Some received acclaim the year round while other singers received international recognition during the time. Promising artistes were also very busy with their works.


Famed singer James did playback for three films “Zero Degree”, “Warning” (Bollywood) and “Desha the Leader”. Of them, “Desha the Leader” was already released and became very popular.

For the first time, Ayub Bachchu performed a stage show with his son, at a concert organised by BAMBA at the Jamuna Future Park.

Noted singer Apel Mahmud released his solo album titled “Apel Mahmud the Legend” after a long hiatus. Baby Naznin released her 50th solo album as well.

An album titled “Jani Na Kon Montore” of Bappa Majumder was released from Kolkata.

Sabina Yasmin and Runa Laila jointly rendered a title song for a TV play “Dalchhut Projapoti” for the first time. Runa Laila was invited from Kolkata to hand over awards. Besides, Sabina Yasmin worked with her daughter Badhon for an album after eight years.

Celebrated singer Arnob sang five songs for a Tollywood film “Calling” and earned immense fame. Meanwhile, Habib rendered a song for the movie “Bindas” in Kolkata for the first time.

Robi Chowdhury did an album composed by Kolkata-based musician Nachikata. Hridoy Khan was invited at a youth festival in West Bengal as guest for the first time.

After eight years, Balam worked on a mixed album. Pantho Kanai started working on his solo album after nine years. Tahsan did his solo album “Uddeshho Nei” after a long break.

National Film Award-winning singer Nancy passed her days through mental trauma. She was admitted to hospital for some days after a sedative overdose.

Kona did her first playback for a movie titled “U-turn”.

Meanwhile, the young singers were mainly busy with stage shows. Imran sang for a Bollywood movie for the first time.

Band Chirkutt performed songs at the Indian Presidential Palace in New Delhi. They also made a theme song for volunteer section of United Nations. Band Lalon also did a show for the United Nations.

Fahmida Nabi, under her production house Anmol, released her first album on Nazrul Sangeet, “Amare Chhuiya Chhile.”Besides, Fahmida and her sister Samina Chowdhury sang a duet “Amar Shokol Sukhe Bubu” after 26 years.

In December, 16 bands took part in the band festival on the premises of Channel i.
