Tamim suffers thigh muscle injury
Bangladesh post an impressive 306-7 declared despite losing opener Tamim Iqbal early on due to injury and suffering a middle-order collapse on the opening day of their three-day practice game against Cricket South Africa XI at Benoni today.
Tamim was on five when he left the field, retiring hurt in the fifth over. According to the chief selector Minhajul Abedin, the top Bangladesh batsman strained his upper right thigh muscle while opening the innings with Soumya Sarkar in the lone practice game ahead of the first Test against South Africa, which starts on September 28.
He will be under observation for 48 hours. But after his early departure, Bangladesh rode on three half centuries to post the impressive total. The home side were on 21-1 at stumps.
Bangladesh suffered a stunning collapse after a 119-run stand for the third wicket between Mominul Haque(68) and captain Mushfiqur Rahim (63). They lost four wickets for nine runs after Mominul was dismissed with the score reading at 211-2.
Mahmudullah scored a first-ball duck while wicketkeeper Liton Das survived only three deliveries before becoming the sixth wicket to fall, for naught in the 49.2 overs. The umpires called for tea after his dismissal.
But Sabbir Rahman batted beautifully after the break. The right-hander scored an unbeaten 58. Earlier, opener Soumya (43) and Imrul Kayes (34) put on 73 runs before being dismissed in quick succession just before lunch.
