Riyadh to ink recruitment deals with Dhaka

The Saudi Arabian government yesterday decided to sign agreements with labour-exporting countries including Bangladesh for recruiting foreign workers
“The draft agreements for the recruitment of workers will be signed between the Ministry of Labour and its counterparts in other countries,” reported Arab News quoting Saudi Culture and Information Minister Abdul Aziz Al-Khodairy today.
Bangladesh, however, has no agreement with the Saudi government on workers’ recruitment.
“It is good news for us. Now, we are ready to ink an agreement with the Saudi government to streamline the recruitment of our people,” a senior official at Bangladesh consulate in Jeddah told The Daily Star over phone this afternoon.
Currently, a delegation from Bangladesh headed by Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain is visiting the kingdom to discuss the labour issues.
“Bangladesh will receive a team from Saudi Arabia to set up orientation programmes for the Kingdom-bound workers,” he said after meeting his Saudi counterpart Adel Fakeih in Riyadh.
