Unilever Internship: A winning start to career
“Did I just get lucky? I made it! I really made it!” Meet Sayem, an elated student in his final year of bachelor's. Sayem returned home that day overjoyed and of course, feeling lucky. He had just been confirmed as an intern for Unilever Bangladesh Limited (UBL) almost a year before university internships start for others in his place.
UBL has developed its internship programme with the objective of engaging university students and preselecting the top performers, giving them an opportunity to realise their potential by giving them roles in key UBL projects. The internship programme has its own distinctive appeal to final-year students since no other company approaches them in such an unprecedented manner. Every year, a group of challenge-oriented, promising and deserving students are recruited from their campuses through this event.
This year, the recruitment session began in June with posters and banners of Unilever interns on different university campuses. Students also received regular updates from the event's Facebook page, “Unilever Bangladesh in Your Campus”. The total turnout this year was about 800, with North South University recording the highest number, followed by East West University, BRAC University, Dhaka University, and Jahangirnagar University.
The session were initiated with the introduction of the company to the students in an interactive dialogue where the applicants made queries and procured valuable insights on how the recruitment session would go about.
Present Unilever interns also shared their experiences and tips with their university juniors or friends during the campus road shows. A total of 16 interns were selected through the two-phased assessment process and they were invited to the UBL corporate office for an on-boarding programme followed by a distribution of internship acceptance letters.
