Arrest warrant against Shahjahan Omar, family

A Dhaka court yesterday issued arrest warrants against former state minister for law barrister Shahjahan Omar, his wife Mehjabin Farzana Omar and their son Adnan Omar in a case filed for concealing information in their wealth statements.
After scrutinising the case docket and other relevant documents, Judge Mohammad Azizul Haque of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court took the charges against the three into cognisance and passed the order.
The court also directed the authorities concerned to send the copies of the arrest warrants to respective addresses of the accused. The court fixed March 2 for the next hearing of the case.
On February 20, Deputy Assistant Director Aftab Uddin of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), who is also the IO of the case, submitted charge sheet against the three accused to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, showing 28 people as prosecution witnesses.
In the charge sheet, the IO prayed for issuance of arrest warrants against the three and orders to attach their properties. All the accused have been on the run since the filing of the case.
Sheikh Mesbahuddin, assistant director of the ACC, filed the case on September 27 last year with Gulshan Police Station on charges of concealing Tk 2,64,15,803 in their wealth statements and amassing Tk 46,18,502 beyond their known means of income.
