Interns call off strike in Rangpur

Intern doctors and nurses at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital called off their work abstention programme and returned to duties yesterday.
They took the decision after 'fruitful' a meeting with acting director of the hospital Dr. Golam Mostafa on Monday.
The hospital authorities at the meeting assured the nurses and interns of taking urgent steps for arresting the people who attacked them on Thursday night.
There will be round the clock security at the hospital, the director told the meeting.
A decision was also taken to post security guards on all 20 wards of the hospital and remove the microbus stand from the hospital compound.
Rawza Firoz, an intern doctor at the hospital, told this correspondent that they decided to withdraw their work abstention programme after the 'fruitful' meeting on Monday.
The interns went on an indefinite strike on Friday as relatives of a patient assaulted an intern doctor and two nurses.
Police and hospital sources said Mahbubur Rahman, 65, a resident of Satgara Mistripara in the town, was admitted to the hospital with old age complications on Thursday. He died an hour after admission.
Following the death of the patient, an altercation took place between the interns and relatives of the deceased.
At on stage, the relatives of the patient beat up a doctor and two nurses of the hospital.
