Mufti Hannan's nephew held with arms, drugs

Detective Branch of police early yesterday arrested a nephew of Huji chief Mufti Hannan and his five aides and recovered a pistol and drugs at Motbari village under Kotalipara upazila of the district.
The arrestees were identified as Mufti Hannan's nephew Amin-Ur-Rahman, 27, and his aides Imran-Ur-Rahman, 30, Shimul Taj, 22, Borkat Ali, 35, Haidar Ali Sheikh, 31, and Bipul Adhikary, 18. All of them hailed from different upazilas of Gopalganj, Madaripur and Jessore.
Sources said acting on a tip-off, DB police early yesterday raided the house of Amin and caught him and his accomplices.
Police also recovered a China made 7.62mm pistol, 15 gram ganja, four small packets of heroin and 14 bottles of phensidyl from Amin's house.
Sub-inspector Moazzem Hossain of district DB police said Amin is involved in drug peddling in the area for long.
Meanwhile, banned Harkat-ul-Jihad (Huji) kingpin Mufti Abdul Hannan was taken on a five-day remand yesterday in connection with a case for bomb attack on Baniarchar catholic church on June 3, 2001 that killed 10 people and injured at least 50.
Gopalganj Chief Judicial Magistrate Alamgir Kabir granted the remand after Mufti Hannan was taken to the court amid tight security at around 11:30am.
Earlier, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had prayed for ten days' remand for the leader of the banned Islamist outfit.
