Neo JMB den busted in Kushtia, 3 held

Law enforcers today busted a “Neo JMB hideout” in Bheramara upazila of Kushtia and arrested three suspected women militants.

Among the arrestees, two were primarily identified as Tithi Khatun, 32, wife of Neo JMB Ameer Ayub Bachchu alias Sajib and Sumaiya Akter, 26, wife of second-in-command of the outfit Abzar alias Rashed, our Kushtia correspondent reports quoting SM Mehedi Hasan, Superintendent of Police (SP) in Kushtia.

During the drive, the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit also recovered two suicide vests, a pistol, 12 bullets and gun powder from their possession, the police official added.

Acting on information that some top “Neo JMB” leaders were residing at a house at Bamanpara, a CTTC team unit along with district police cordoned off it around 12midnight.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of CTTC unit Abdul Mannan led the operation, the SP said.

‘Militant attempts to blast suicide vest’  

Soon after cordoning off the house, police asked the suspected militants to surrender.

After about five hours of the stand-off, Sumaiya Khatun wearing a suicide vest walked towards the police personnel along with her two sons.

Police foiled her attempt to blast the suicide vest and arrested her, SP Mehedi said.

House sealed off

The house remained sealed off as bomb disposal unit of CTTC in Dhaka was on their way when this report was filed around 9:15am.

The suspected militants rented the house from one Nasima Khatun around two months back, police said.

Police are in search of Nasima Khatun and her family members, the official said.
