Language hero Joynal Abedin passes away
Joynal Abedin Khan, language movement hero and also a freedom fighter, passed away early today at a hospital in Savar, on the outskirts of capital Dhaka. He was 80.
He had been suffering from old-age complications, our Savar correspondent reports quoting Joynal’s family members.
The namaz-e-janaza of Joynal Abedin will be held at Savar upazila premises in the afternoon. He will be laid to rest at Talbag graveyard.
Born in 1932 in Mohokuma of Pabna, Joynal joined the language movement when he was a student of Pabna Edward College. He completed MA degree in law and international relations from Dhaka University.
Joynal Abedin also spent time in jail over political issues.
He worked as a metropolitan magistrate and retired in 1992. After his retirement, Joynal worked with several social organisations including Transparency International Bangladesh and Sanak.
