I didn’t mention Zia as 1st president: AL MP Shubid Ali

Awami League lawmaker Shubid Ali Bhuiyan today claimed that he did not mention Ziaur Rahman as the first president of Bangladesh which was reported in most of the newspapers.

At an emergency press briefing at the media centre of Jatiya Sangshad, the lawmaker said he would quit politics if anyone could prove that he had termed Zia as the first president.

Quoting lawmaker Mohibur Rahman Manik and some other unnamed lawmakers, different media ran reports today that Bhuiyan who attended a meeting of parliamentary standing committee on public undertakings with them yesterday described Zia as the first president.

At the briefing, Bhuiyan, also chairman of the parliamentary committee on defence ministry, said Zia while reading independence declaration from Kalurghat Radio Station claimed himself as the president which was made corrected later and he mentioned this in the meeting.

He termed media reports on him as false and fabricated.

“I don’t know who said what. I’m very surprised,” said Bhuiyan also a member of the JS body on Public Undertakings.

Shubid Ali Bhuiyan was elected AL lawmaker from the Comilla-1 constituency for two consecutive times.
