No case, no arrest yet over MP killing

With a murder case yet to be filed and no arrest being made over the killing of Gaibandha lawmaker, police have picked up 18 persons for quizzing in the district.

Meanwhile, supporters of the lawmaker are observing a upazila-wide daylong hartal (shutdown) in protest, our local correspondent reports quoting police.

“No case has been filed yet,” said Atiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sundarganj Police Station. “We have 18 people in custody for questioning over the murder.”

Body of Manzurul Islam Liton, who was shot dead in his home by masked assailants yesterday, will be taken to Dhaka for namaz-e-janaza before burial in Gaibandha, UNB adds.

His first namaz-e-janaza will be held at South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad.

The hartal in Gaibandha started from 6:00am will continue till 6:00pm. All the shops remain closed due to the hartal. The hartal was called last night.

Pro-hartal activists blocked railway track at Bamandanga station in Gaibandha’s Sundarganj upazila, forcing the authorities to suspend rail service on the route today.
